1.7.9. Spare wheel

Cars can be completed both with a small-sized spare wheel, and the spare wheel unified with other wheels of the car.

The spare wheel unified with other wheels of the car
The car is equipped with a spare wheel with the tire of the same type, dimension and model that are established on other four wheels of the car. It allows to use a spare wheel both for replacement of the damaged wheel, and for periodic shift of wheels.

Small-sized spare wheel
The small-sized wheel differs in the smaller weight and the sizes. The small-sized wheel is intended only for short-term use in case of damage of a wheel of the car. The car run on a small-sized spare wheel has to be limited to small distance. It is forbidden to use a small-sized wheel for the long movement on considerable distances.
When using a small-sized spare wheel stability of the movement of the car can worsen in comparison with a case when all four wheels of normal dimension are installed on the car. Therefore, driving the car, be especially careful. In order to avoid damage of a small-sized spare wheel or the car observe the following precautionary measures.
– Do not exceed the speed of 80 km/h.
– Avoid moving through obstacles in the road. Besides, do not come around on the mechanized automobile sink. As diameter of a small-sized wheel is less in comparison with the regular wheels installed on the car, the road gleam of the car will decrease approximately by 10–25 mm.
– It is forbidden to establish an antisliding chain as it does not approach this wheel on a spare wheel.
– It is forbidden to install a small-sized spare wheel on cars of other brands and models. The small-sized spare wheel is intended only for this model of the car.
– It is allowed to install no more than one small-sized spare wheel on the car at the same time.

Removal and installation of a spare wheel

To remove a spare wheel, turn out a fixing bolt (fig. 1.141).
For fixing of a spare wheel in the place of its storage densely tighten a bolt by hand to choose a side play of a spare wheel.

Replacement of the lowered wheel

The operations described below can be used both for replacement of wheels, and for shift of wheels. By preparation for replacement of the lowered wheel be convinced that the selector is in situation "P" ("Parking") (the automatic transmission) or the lever of gear shifting is in the provision of transfer of a backing (the mechanical transmission) and the parking brake is switched on.

Wrap up a piece of fabric around the end of the crow bar not to damage a surface of caps and disks. Insert an assembly key into a groove of a wheel cap, accurately wring out and take off a cap (fig. 1.143).
Prepare a spare wheel and tools.

Take out from a luggage carrier a spare wheel, a jack, the handle of a jack and a bag for tools.

For prevention of movement of the car at a raising establish by its jack brake boots (persistent blocks) under the wheel located from the opposite side on diagonal in relation to the replaced wheel (fig. 1.144).
Before lifting the car, it is necessary to weaken an inhaling of wheel nuts slightly.

To weaken an inhaling of wheel nuts, turn the key handle counterclockwise. At the same time be convinced that the key head densely covers a wheel nut. For receiving the most convenient lever, establish a key in the situation shown in the figure 1.145.
Then turn, holding a key for the end of the handle. Do not turn off wheel nuts completely at this stage. Only weaken their inhaling on a half of a turn.

The basis of a jack needs to be placed on a firm plain surface. The jack has to be located, as shown in the figure 1.146.

Insert a key for an inhaling of wheel nuts into the jack handle, as shown in the figure 1.147.
To lift the car, rotate the jack handle clockwise. When the jack begins to lift the car, repeatedly check reliability of its installation. If the jack is on soft soil or sand, perhaps it is required to enclose under it whetstone, a flat stone or other subject that he did not go to the earth. Lift the car on sufficient height for installation of completely beefy wheel.

Take off a wheel cap (the additional equipment) from a wheel. Use a key for weakening of an inhaling of wheel nuts then turn out them hands, remove a wheel and put it on the earth that it was not left (fig. 1.148).
To put on a wheel a nave, lift it, combine openings with hairpins and put on them a wheel. If it is difficult to make it, slightly incline a wheel and combine at first the top opening with a hairpin. Then a poshatayta a wheel to insert the remained hairpins into wheel openings.

Before establishing a wheel into place, be convinced of lack of foreign materials on a nave or a wheel (dirt, tar, gravel, etc.) which can interfere with installation of a wheel on a nave. If they are – remove them (fig. 1.149).
If the good contact between the interfaced surfaces of a wheel and a nave is not provided, wheel nuts can be turned off that can lead to loss of a wheel and loss of control over the car.

To establish a wheel cap, holding it on a wheel, screw wheel nuts on a carving and tighten them by hand. Nuts need to be established by a conical part inside (fig. 1.150).
Shake a wheel to be convinced that it completely sat down on the place, and again tighten wheel nuts by hand.

Lower the car on the earth, turning the jack handle counterclockwise. Establish a key in 1.151 situation shown in the drawing and tighten wheel nuts.
Make sure that the key head densely covers a wheel nut. At an inhaling of nuts of fastening of a wheel it is forbidden to rise a leg on a balloon key or to extend the last by means of a pipe as it can lead to a nut banner.
Serially tighten all wheel nuts. Repeatedly check density of an inhaling of all nuts.
After replacement of a wheel, as soon as possible provide the car to the expert that the mechanic could tighten wheel nuts the correct moment of an inhaling.
Moment of an inhaling of wheel nuts.
Steel disk and disk from aluminum alloy: 90–110 kPa.
After installation of a wheel remove a cap of the gate and check air pressure in the tire.
If air pressure in the tire is higher than recommended, pit it up to the required size.
After replacement of wheels always you fix the lowered wheel in a luggage carrier and remove a jack, the handle of a jack and tools to places of storage.
