1.7.11. Check of technical condition of the car

Check of level of engine oil
Before check of level of engine oil warm up the engine up to the normal working temperature and be convinced that the car is installed on a plain horizontal surface. Switch off the engine.

Wait minute, pull out the oil probe, wipe it, again insert the probe against the stop and then pull out it. Check oil level on the probe. It has to be between the marks "FULL" ("Full") and "LOW" ("Low") in the probe (fig. 1.155).

If the level of oil is about or below the mark "L" ("Low") in the probe, add oil to the mark "F" ("Full"). For this purpose turn off a stopper of a maslozalivny mouth of the engine, turning it counterclockwise. Add oil and again check the level of oil (fig. 1.156).
Do not fill in oil more, than it is required.
Establish a stopper, turning it clockwise.
The distance between marks "Р ("Full") and "L" ("Low") on the probe corresponds about 1 lmotorny oil.

Consumption of engine oil
Engine oil is used for lubricant of pistons, piston rings and cylinders (a part it gets to the combustion chamber and burns down). The thin layer of engine oil remains on walls of cylinders at the movement of pistons down. The discharge which is formed in operating time of the engine soaks up an oil quantity in the combustion chamber. This oil, and also oil from walls of cylinders burns down during combustion of fuel-air mix in the combustion chamber.
Viscosity and quality of oil, engine turns, traffic conditions, etc. exerts strong impact on a consumption of oil. The engine spends more oil under trying conditions of operation, for example, at high speeds of the movement and frequent accelerations and braking.

Replacement of engine oil and oil filter (for petrol engines)

Engine oil and oil filter needs to be replaced through the intervals specified in the card of periodic maintenance in the service book. At operation of the car under trying conditions operation needs to replace engine oil and an oil filter more often.
Replacement of engine oil and oil filter needs to be made in the order provided below.
1. Park the car on the flat horizontal platform and turn on the parking brake. Start the engine and let's it work until the arrow of the index of temperature of cooling liquid rises above the minimum mark of a scale. Switch off the engine and transfer the selector to situation "P" ("Parking") (the automatic transmission) or the gear shifting lever in the provision of transfer of a backing (the mechanical transmission).
2. Open a cowl and remove a stopper of a maslozalivny mouth of the engine.
3. From below the car weaken an inhaling of a drain stopper, turning it counterclockwise by means of the corresponding wrench. Before completely turning off a drain stopper be convinced that the flowing-down oil will get to the capacity which is specially prepared for this purpose, turn off a stopper and merge oil.
4. After flows down a little, establish a drain stopper with a new sealing washer and tighten it, rotating clockwise.
Moment of an inhaling of a drain stopper: 35–45 N · m.
5. Remove an oil filter. Turn off the filter hands. Substitute specially prepared capacity for discharge of oil under an oil filter as after an otvorachivaniye from it a small amount of oil will flow out.
6. Establish a new oil filter, following instructions on packing or on the filter. Do not tighten it too strongly. Make sure that the adjusting surface of a case of the engine pure and on it is not present the remains of old laying. Grease laying of the new filter with a small amount of fresh engine oil.
7. Fill in the recommended amount of engine oil in an engine case.
8. Start the engine and be convinced of lack of leak of oil from under an oil filter and a drain stopper.
9. Kill the engine and repeatedly check oil level.

NOTE
Always utilize the fulfilled engine oil properly. It is recommended to place oil in a sealed container and to give on service station for utilization. Do not pour out the fulfilled engine oil on the earth and do not throw out it with household garbage.

Cooling liquid of the engine

Use 50 percentage water solution of cooling liquid on the basis of ethylene glycol. Cooling liquid of the engine has to be compatible to aluminum details. It is not necessary to use additional additives and anticorrosive additives. For prevention of freezing and emergence of corrosion cooling liquid has to have the corresponding concentration and type.

ATTENTION
Do not open a radiator stopper until the engine did not cool down. The cooling system is under pressure, and opening of a stopper can lead to emission of hot liquid and cause severe burns. Do not open a radiator stopper until you are able quietly to touch a radiator by a hand.

Concentration of antifreeze should not be higher than 60% and lower than 35%, otherwise it is possible to damage the cooling system. The correct concentration of antifreeze at its addition or replacement is specified in table 1.6.

Level of cooling liquid can be seen on a sidewall of a plastic broad tank. For a cold condition of the engine the level of cooling liquid has to be in a tank between the marks "LOW" ("Low") and "FULL" ("Full"). If the level of cooling liquid is below the mark "LOW", bring it to the required level. In this case check existence of leaks in the cooling system. Check the level of cooling liquid as often as possible.

Replacement of cooling liquid of the engine
1. Install the car on the flat horizontal platform, turn on the parking brake and when the engine cools down, remove a radiator stopper.
2. Make sure that capacity for discharge of cooling liquid is in the place. Open the drain crane of a radiator. Let's cooling liquid merge completely from the cooling system then densely close a faucet.
3. Following instructions of the manufacturer of cooling liquid, fill in the required amount of liquid in a radiator. After that fill in the distilled or demineralizirovanny water in a radiator. Fill in the distilled or deminera-lizirovanny water in the small portions until it does not appear in a radiator mouth.
4. Start the engine, add in a water radiator, and then add cooling liquid to a broad tank so that its level was between the marks "LOW" and "FULL".
5. Establish traffic jams of a radiator and a broad tank and be convinced that drain cranes are closed and do not leak.

ATTENTION
The fan of a radiator of the cooling system turns on depending on temperature of cooling liquid of the engine and can sometimes turn on when the engine does not work. Be especially careful in operating time near fan blades not to be traumatized from the rotating blades. In process of decrease in temperature of cooling liquid the fan is switched off automatically. This normal phenomenon.

Spark plugs

Spark plugs need to be changed according to the schedule of servicing of the car, specified in the service book or in case the efficiency of the engine considerably decreased. Signs of decrease in efficiency of the engine are: power deceleration at the increased loading, the increased fuel consumption, small size of acceleration, etc. When replacing candles it is always necessary to use the spark plugs recommended to Hyundai. Use of other spark plugs can lead to decrease in efficiency of the engine, emergence of a radio noise and damage of the engine.

Replacement of spark plugs
It is better to change spark plugs when the engine is not heated-up. Change spark plugs serially on one candle. It will help to avoid the wrong connection of high-voltage wires.
1. Remove the central cover which is located on a valvate cover of the engine.
2. By means of pure fabric remove all deposits of dirt which accumulated about a spark plug that they could not get to the cylinder, during removal of a spark plug.
3. To remove a high-voltage wire of a spark plug, pull it for the isolated end. If to pull directly for a wire, it is possible to damage the carbon conducting core.
4. At installation of a candle key and otvorachivaniya of an old spark plug do not damage its ceramic isolation.

5. For removal of a spark plug rotate it counterclockwise (fig. 1.161).

6. At installation of a new spark plug be careful: do not damage ceramic isolation (fig. 1.162).

NOTE
It is necessary to tighten densely all spark plugs, but excessively strong inhaling of a spark plug can damage a carving in an aluminum head of the block of cylinders, and too weak inhaling – to excessive heating of a spark plug and, perhaps, to damage of the engine.

7. Establish a high-voltage wire directly on an electrode. Make sure that it is reliably recorded and will not drop out.

Replacement of the air filter

For replacement of the air filter unfasten clamps around a cover (fig. 1.163).
After that lift a cover up, take the old filter and replace it new. Use only of original spare parts of Hyundai is recommended.

ATTENTION
Operation of the car without the corresponding air filter can result in the increased wear of the engine.

Windshield screen wiper brushes

From time to time it is necessary to check brushes of a screen wiper of a windshield and to clear them of the collected dirt. For cleaning of brushes and levers of a screen wiper use the pure sponge or fabric moistened in solution of neutral detergent. If brushes of a screen wiper continue to leave stains on glass, replace them with original brushes of Hyundai or similar.

ATTENTION
Do not allow work of brushes of a screen wiper on dry glass. It can result in their bystry wear and emergence of scratches on glass.

Filling of a washer reservoir

The washer of a windshield uses water from a tank. Fill in in a tank liquid for a washer of glasses of high quality. At frequent use of a washer calibrate liquid level in a tank more often.
Capacity of a washer reservoir of a windshield makes 3 l.

ATTENTION
Do not overflow a washer reservoir, and also do not use a washer when in a tank there is no liquid. It can lead to damage of the pump of a washer.

Check of level of oil in the transmission (the mechanical transmission)

Oil level in the transmission needs to be checked through the intervals specified in the service book.
For the mechanical transmission use only gearbox oil of Hyundai 75W/90 (on classification of API GL-4).
The volume of the filled-in oil in the mechanical transmission makes 2,15 l.

ATTENTION
It is better to check oil level in the transmission at the cold engine. If the engine hot, be very careful not to burn about hot details of the engine or a detail of system of production of the fulfilled gases.

Install the car on the flat horizontal platform and switch off the engine.
1. Using a key of the corresponding size, weaken an inhaling of a jellied stopper, turning it counterclockwise, and turn out it up to the end a hand.
2. Check oil level in a transmission case a finger or the corresponding tool. Level of oil has to be at the level of the lower edge of an opening of a jellied stopper. If the level of oil is lower, then before adding oil, check existence of its leaks. Fill in or add oil to the transmission very accurately. Do not fill in too much oil.
3. Establish a stopper, screw it hands, and then densely tighten a key.

Check of level of oil in the transmission (the automatic transmission)
Oil level in the automatic transmission needs to be checked through the intervals specified in the service book.
The automatic transmission of the car is calculated on use of DIAMOND ATF SP-III or SK ATF SP-III oil.
The volume of the oil which is filled in in the automatic transmission makes 6,1 l (for the car with the engine of 1,6 l of DOHC) and 6,7 l (for the car with the engine of 1,8 l of DOHC).

ATTENTION
Oil level in the automatic transmission needs to be checked at a normal working temperature of cooling liquid of the engine. It means that the engine, the radiator, system of production of the fulfilled gases, etc. will be very hot. Be especially careful when performing this operation.

Install the car on the flat horizontal platform and turn on the parking brake. During check of level of oil in the automatic transmission it has to have normal working temperature, and the engine to work at idling turns.
At the engine working at idling turns press a pedal of a brake and transfer the automatic transmission selector lever from situation "P" consistently to provisions "to FT, "N" and "D". Then return it to situation "N". After that, without switching off the engine:
1. Accurately open a cowl so that hands, long hair or clothes did not get on the rotating details.
2. Take out the measuring probe of the automatic transmission, wipe it dry, insert against the stop and again take out. Check oil level on the probe. It has to be between two tags on the probe "NOTES ("Hot"). The ATF level has to be in the range of "NOTES" (fig. 1.169).

3. If oil level low, then, using a funnel, add through an opening for the measuring probe oil so that its level was between tags on NOTES probe. Do not fill in too much oil.

Check of level of brake fluid
It is necessary to check periodically the level of brake fluid in a tank.

ATTENTION
Use only brake fluid conforming to technical requirements of DOT 3 or DOT 4 in the brake system of the car. Follow instructions on packing of brake fluid.

Level of brake fluid has to there is between marks in a tank "MOVE" ("Maximum") and "MIN" ("Minimum"). If the level of brake fluid is about or below the mark "MIN", accurately add liquid to the mark "MAH". Do not fill in too much brake fluid.

Dolivka of brake fluid
At addition of brake fluid at first remove dirt and remove a stopper of a tank of a hydraulic actuator of brakes. Slowly add necessary amount of brake fluid. Do not fill in too much brake fluid. Accurately establish a stopper on a tank and tighten it.

Check of level of liquid in a coupling hydraulic actuator tank
When carrying out operations on maintenance of the car under a cowl it is necessary to check liquid level in a tank of the main cylinder of a hydraulic actuator of coupling. It is at the same time necessary to check lack of leaks in system of a hydraulic actuator of coupling. Level of brake fluid has to there is between marks in a tank of the main cylinder of a hydraulic actuator of coupling "MOVE" ("Maximum") and "MIN" ("Minimum").

If necessary add liquid. Leak of liquid indicates existence of a leak in system of a hydraulic actuator of coupling which needs to be eliminated immediately.

Coupling hydraulic actuator liquid replacement
For replacement it is necessary to use only brake fluid conforming to technical requirements of DOT 3 or DOT 4. For prevention of pollution of system of a hydraulic actuator of coupling densely tighten a tank stopper.
